On September 22nd & 23rd, ContinYou Care attended the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management conference as a silver sponsor at the Best Western Plus Stoneridge Inn & Conference Centre in London, Ontario.
We talked with a lot of industry members and attended some insightful speaker sessions. One speaker, Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy, an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and holds a Canada Research Chair in Nutrigenomics, discussed “Do Our Genes Determine What We Should Eat?”
This topic really interested us as he focused on increasing awareness among researchers, educators, healthcare professionals, and consumers that the one-size-fits-all, population-based approach to nutritional guidance is inefficient and often ineffective. Incorporating markers of genetic variation into studies of nutrition and health aims to benefit those seeking personalized dietary advice, but should also improve public health recommendations by providing sound scientific evidence linking diet and health.
