New Year’s Resolution – 3 Ways to Give Back to the Senior Community
Posted on January 18, 2018 by Continyou Care
What are your new year’s resolutions for 2018? If you haven’t made any, consider making the effort to give back to the senior community this year. There are so many different ways to not only be involved but to make a real difference in the lives of those around you.
Part of our goals and drive as a company involves giving seniors the chance to feel loved important.
Giving back to seniors in your community is much easier than you may think and is so incredibly appreciated. Here are three ways you can help in 2018:
-
Start with seniors close to you
Your grandparents, family members or even seniors who live in your building are all in a similar position in life. Although they may not need a full day of service assistance, they still may need some help with tasks we take for granted. Offering assistance to help with grocery shopping, shoveling the driveway, mowing the lawn and helping lift heavier objects around their home is more help than you know!
Many times, seniors have a difficult time asking for help when it comes to day to day tasks and errands. Dealing with aging and losing independence can be frustrating. Offering to help can also prevent any injury or strain from seniors trying to overcompensate for something they struggle with.
-
Reach out to a local senior home
Nursing homes are usually pretty open and willing to let you volunteer to work with the seniors or help with tasks around the facility. With so many seniors who suffer from depression and isolation, seeing a new face that is excited and eager to see them is great for keeping them feeling included.
-
Teach Technology or Internet tips
Seniors can tend to find themselves less in tune with technology, but usually, want to be apart of new ways to stay social and communicate. Offer to help the elderly learn the ins and outs of their new device – whether it be a computer or a phone – this will help them stay in touch with their loved ones.
Remember, one simple act can brighten someone’s day. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2018.
